The Wairarapa has plenty of places everyone knows about. But some of the best bits are the ones you don’t necessarily find in a guidebook.
The Wairarapa Hidden Gems tour is about taking the time to discover them.
You can choose to explore Masterton and its country charm, with a mix of sightseeing, local art, interesting little places and time to enjoy a relaxed morning or afternoon tea, or a beautiful lunch platter.
Or head towards Martinborough and the countryside around it, where vineyards are only part of the story. There are old homesteads, working farms, wineries and gin distilleries, along with some lovely little places that are easy to miss if you don’t know the area.
Masterton
Masterton has a character of its own. It feels different from the better-known wine villages, and that’s exactly why we like showing it to visitors.
Spend some time exploring the town and surrounding area, visit local galleries and discover some of the creative people and places that make the region what it is.
And then, of course, there is time for something delicious.
A good morning tea. Afternoon tea. Or perhaps a generous lunch platter. You choose.

Martinborough
Martinborough is famous for wine, but there is much more to see.
We can take you beyond the village and into the surrounding countryside, with its old homesteads, farms, vineyards and local producers. Perhaps a winery. Perhaps a gin distillery. Perhaps somewhere you’ve never heard of before.
That’s part of the fun.
The itinerary isn’t carved in stone. If there is somewhere you’ve heard about or something you’d particularly like to experience, tell us. We can shape the day around you.
And if you don’t drink wine or gin? Absolutely fine. There are plenty of other ways to enjoy the Wairarapa.
